You can do it

Making the decision to move to Morocco is one that will affect you not just geographically, but also emotionally. It is a very different country, more traditional and obviously being Muslim there are certain things which are frowned upon. That said, if you have visited before you will know what to expect and will enjoy that way of life and can probably make the move the best decision you ever made. If there comes a point when you are not sure if you have made the right decision and feel like you are losing motivation to carry out the move, then never fear – there are always these tips to help you along your way.

1) Make lists: Lists are a brilliant way of getting all your excitement, as well as your worries, down on paper. List all the things you don’t like about the UK, and then list all the good things about your move to Morocco. If there is ever any doubt about the move, then looking at all the positive aspects that you have written down will be sure to get you motivated again.

2) Learn Moroccan: The best way to integrate into a new culture is to learn the local language. Nobody is saying that you need to be fluent, or be able to hold a long conversation, but even just knowing a few words such as ‘thank you’ or ‘nice to meet you’ can have the most amazing effect. Day to day phrases that you will need for going to the shops and buying things, or going to the doctor will prove invaluable when it comes to needing them. The local people will also appreciate your effort and be more willing to help you by talking slower or teaching you new words.

3) Plan well: A move abroad requires a lot of planning and organisation. And the more organised you are, the less stressed you will be. Planning is also a good way to get really excited about your move – make a check list for everything you need to do, and as you tick off things, the excitement will grow and you will begin to really look forward to getting to Morocco to start your new life.

4) Talk: Talking with friends and family is a great way to really affirm your move. Talking will also keep you motivated as when you tell people about it, you are bound to keep remembering exciting things that you can’t wait to share with people. It is also good to have somebody to ask you questions as this will get you thinking even more and articulating about the move in your head.

5) Dream and imagine: Anything is possible as long as you can imagine it. Moving to Morocco will be a fresh start for you so why not make the most of it and do exactly what you want to do. Perhaps you’ve dreamt of having a large kitchen or an open fire, so why not make that happen now? Don’t be afraid to dream and plan things that you want.
