Using a removal firm

When moving house anywhere, we want to know our belongings will be looked after by those entrusted to move it for us. That is why choosing a good, reputable removals company is so important. They are the ones who will be responsible for your things arriving safely to their new destination.

There are different ways of moving your things to Morocco and shipping is more popular than flying because it is so much cheaper. Be aware however that it is a much longer process and can take weeks or even months. This is not usually a problem as most people work the move around the delivery of their items so they are in Morocco for a few days or a week before their things arrive. This means less waiting around.

When you are choosing a company it is best to get different quotes from different companies and if possible, recommendations from people who have used them before. Companies will often fight for your business by offering to beat any quotes you already have. Choose a company which is BAR (British Association of Removers) registered. Don’t use a company who is not registered with them, no matter how cheap they are.

Most people find that they do not need a whole shipping container to themselves and opt to share with another customer. Do not be put off by this prospect; it is the most common and most cost effective way of moving and the company will be used to dividing the container up. You should also bear in mind that lots of your things will not be joining you in Morocco, and some things may be cheaper to get when you arrive, rather than shipping them from the UK. Do some research into prices for items such as white goods. Also check whether UK appliances will work in Moroccan electrical systems.

Don’t be alarmed if two burley men turn up at your door and announce that they’ve come to pack boxes for you! This is normal and the company would prefer to pack the boxes ready to go on to the container as there are rules and regulations, and the boxes need to be packed a certain way. Letting the removals company do this for you will ensure nothing goes wrong. If boxes aren’t packed correctly and customs does a random search, this can delay the move. Where possible, always witness your boxes being packed into the shipping container. Good companies will not have a problem with this.

When you are deciding what to take, make a not of everything that is going with you and when the container arrives in Morocco, check things off against the list. In the excitement of the move it is easy not to spot if something is missing. Always take out comprehensive insurance for your belongings, as disasters do happen and if you will not be compensated if your things are missing or damaged and you don’t have insurance.
