Morocco attracts visitors in their thousands every year, and many fall in love with the country and decide to make it their home. When it comes to taking the whole family to Morocco, there will need to be honesty and open discussions to ensure that the whole family is up for the move. Here are a few tips on making sure everyone is ready to move to Morocco:
Children: Young children will need the move explaining to them, probably more than once, so make sure you sit them down and tell them all about Morocco, why you are moving and what they can do when they get there. It is also important that you give your child the opportunity to tell you how they feel about the thought of living in Morocco, especially if they are worried about something. Let them tell you what they think and then try your best to put their mind at rest. They may say that they don’t want to go but they won’t have a choice so it’s important to help them look forward to it as much as possible.
Teenagers: Teenagers will have the added benefit of being able to pack their own things ready for the move. They will also be more hands on so try to include them as much as you can in all aspects of the move. Don’t forget to ask them how they feel about the move too, they may be moody teenagers but they will still like to feel that their opinion matters! If they show doubt and an unwillingness to move, perhaps they are well settled at school, or have exams coming up, then it may be an idea to sit down with them and work out if it is possible for them to remain in the UK and possibly follow you to Morocco at a later date.
Pets: Taking pets abroad is getting easier but it is still a long and costly process. You pet will have to undergo checks and injections and possibly quarantine before they can join you in Morocco. Consider whether your pet would be happier to stay in the UK, after all the climate in Morocco is a lot different to what they are used to. Your pet may also be a bit old to move away from its home and you should think whether or not the move will be good for its health and/or mental state. The move to a foreign, hot country may be a bit stressful for them and they may be better off living with a friend or relative instead.
The process of moving abroad can go smoothly as long as there is communication and consideration from each family member. Issues should be raised and sorted out and everyone should be happy about the move before you go.
